Loyola University Chicago School of Law will be hosting the CLR Symposium on the topic of "Advertising in Digital Media: Disclosures and Transparency in Social Media". It concentrates on popular online methods of communicating with consumers through social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; blogs; and consumer review portals such as Amazon and Yelp. This symposium considers the myriad consumer protection issues presented by the online space and examines whether extant regulations adequately govern these platforms. Speakers will examine the use of social media outlets, native advertising, targeted marketing, and user-generated content, among other topics. The symposium will also explore how privacy limitations and consumers’ trust in these platforms’ communications have the potential to adversely affect consumer decision-making.
